Hey guys!

I know I have been gone for a while. It’s been a busy period in time. On top of that, somehow, I found myself in a writing slump. For tonight’s content, I was able to write this with the help of a Blog Topic Generator. But the generator did not give me this blog’s topic. You see, it asked me for five nouns and as my friends and I were talking about children and babies, I wrote the following key terms: CHILDREN, BOOKS, ADVENTURE, LAUGHTER, EXPERIENCE.

By typing these key words, I came up with this blog topic. It also helped that it reminded me of a children’s book my friend has a copy of, Taro Gomi’s Little Chicks, which is not available in the Philippines at this time. That means the affiliate links in this blog post will solely be Amazon links. The link above would bring you to Amazon, where there are sample pages for you to check out.

I do believe that reading is a good bonding activity for parents and young children. It brings both parent and child in the moment to experience the story in the book together. I always gift my friends’ kids with books for this reason.

Kindly note that: as I do not have children, this recommendation will be based on look, content, and reviews from parents, if any.

Let’s get this list started!

TARO GOMI’s LITTLE CHICKShttps://amzn.to/3ZxsS5a

From the beloved author of Everyone Poops, a charming tale of three little chicks who are ready to explore the big, wide world together! Running in sunshine and in the rain, over grassy fields and past friendly neighbors, these chicks are as eager for adventure as they are to run back home into the arms of their caring parents at the end of a long day. Internationally beloved author-illustrator Taro Gomi takes the youngest of readers on a journey of adventure, discovery, and excitement, with a reassuring reminder that no matter how far they may roam, there is always love and support waiting for them at home.

Taro Gomi’s Little Chicks is his newest board book, featuring three little chicks off on a grand adventure as they see and experience the world outside their home. It is a simple story with a very endearing message – that, as the children explore the world, there is a home they can go back to and be welcomed back warmly. Each page has an engaging scene that parents can point out to their children (i.e. the sun, the fence, etc).

This 26-page book is recommended for babies until 3 year old kids, perfect for gifting for newborns.

CECE MENG AND MELISSA SUBER’s TOUGH CHICKShttps://amzn.to/3JprTP9

Peep, peep, zoom, zip, cheep!

From the moment Penny, Polly, and Molly hatch from their eggs, the whole farm knows they are truly tough chicks. They wrestle worms, rope roosters, and are often found under the hood of the tractor. All the other animals and even the farmer himself tell Mama Hen to make her chicks good. “They are good!” Mama Hen replies. But her chicks are different. They’re tough and smart and strong in a good way.

This book is a new discovery for me. Cece Meng and Melissa Suber’s Tough Chicks is a lap board book about a mother hen and her three chicks, Penny, Polly, and Molly. The three chicks, dubbed as tough chicks, have been causing mischief in the barn — a lot of trouble that the other inhabitants of the farm are complaining to the mother. The mother defends her chicks and eventually, the chicks prove themselves to be good. The moral lesson, being considerate of others, is explored and is encouraged in this book.

This 28-page book is recommended for babies until 3 year old kids, but the reviewers say that it is a bit complicated for two year olds as the concept of being rough and rowdy only looks fun. The kids are said to enjoy the book nonetheless and find the ending wonderful.

DK’s CHEEP! CHEEP! CHICKhttps://amzn.to/3YvvHm0

Meet Roxie and all her lovable animal friends in this delightful, rhyming picture book. Get ready to join in with Roxie’s chirpy singing and listen to the cool sounds from her drum, guitar, and xylophone – biff, bang, twang, ting, ding!

Roxie absolutely loves singing and playing music. She’s a very chirpy chick! However, all her friends are having some quiet time. Follow Roxie on her adventures to find out if she ever gets to sing and make her friends happy. Along the way, they’ll get to meet the cutest, cuddliest animals ever!

This adorable board book, Cheep! Cheep! Chick, is about a chick named Roxie and her friends. As she enjoys singing and playing music, she is quite loud — chirpy, as described in the story. One afternoon, her friends wish for quiet time which means that she cannot make any noise which included singing and playing music. Similar to Tough Chicks, it teaches kids to be considerate of others.

It is a very interactive book, starting with a “find Smiley Snail” as a game that the parent and the child can play while reading this book. However, compared to the first two, it is only 12 pages. It is also recommended for babies until three years old. It is part of a series called Super Noisy Books by DK Children. (The other two books in the series feature two different rabbits.)

MOLLY IDLE’s FLORA AND THE CHICKShttps://amzn.to/3ZBABiL

Inspired by the main character of the Caldecott Honor book Flora and the Flamingo, this new series of board books is perfect for the very youngest Flora fans. When a nest of eggs begins to hatch, how will Flora ever keep up with so many chicks? Featuring fold-out pages and Molly Idle’s graceful artwork, this adorable counting book will delight young children as they master new words and concepts.

Compared to the first three books, this book, Flora and the Chicks, is a counting book which mainly teaches children how to count through the images in the pages. Each page shows a new chick hatching until there are 10 chicks. There are fold out pages which reveal the number of chicks.

Recommended for children aged two to four years old, this 20-page book is an adorable addition to the child’s library. The artwork is simple and minimal but is still engaging as one reviewer points out that the fold-out pages helps develop a child’s psychomotor skills. It is part of a series called Flora and Her Feathered Friends which includes three other books with a flamingo, an ostrich, and a penguin.

DAN YACCARINO’s FIVE LITTLE CHICKShttps://amzn.to/3F8Hwb7

The classic nursery rhyme—with a springtime twist! Five little chicks hatch, explore, and play in this adorable board book by acclaimed author-illustrator Dan Yaccarino.

The bouncy text will have toddlers chanting along with the vibrant, bold illustrations that bring these little chicks and their farm friends to life. This sturdy board book is perfect for little hands and is a must-have addition to Easter baskets.

This book, Five Little Chicks, reminds me of the first two books in this blog post. It talks of five newborn chicks and their farm adventure for the day – from hatching to enjoying the afternoon out of their home to going home and calling it a day. It features really colorful, vibrant pages that would keep the child interested and engaged.

This 16-page book is recommended for babies until four year old children. It is part of a series called Five Little. Other books in this series include elves, pumpkins, and bunnies.

I enjoyed looking at these books in Amazon. Would you be interested in more posts like these? I know that I am not a parent so I take into consideration the reviews. They really help a lot!

That is all for now, folks!

Love, Anj

PS: The Amazon affiliate links will not charge you anything. If you do click the link and buy the book, I would get a small commission from Amazon.
