Karayama is a Japanese karaage restaurant that opened in SM North Edsa in March 2020, prior to the lockdown. It is a popular karaage shop in Japan, which started out a small takeout shop in Tokyo. They aim to be the restaurant that offers Japan’s crunchiest fried chicken.
I was tired and didn’t want to stand in a queue. As a result, I ended up having dinner here on a whim. What drew me to this restaurant is their inviting storefront. I went in and was greeted as if I was in Japan — with an eager and happy “irrashaimase” or welcome.
I (finally) sat down and looked at the interiors. It’s as if I am in Japan. It is very relaxing, with their interior’s wooden color palette and clean lines. They play 90’s anime songs in the store and it brings such nostalgia.
After further consideration, I decided to order their Katarama Don, which is composed of their “signature karaage simmered with egg and onion in a light soy broth, served over rice”. I also ordered a bowl of miso soup to go with the meal, as it feels more complete if there is miso soup.
I specifically requested to seprate the green onion. Haha.
The bowl arrived freshly made. It smelled so good. The bowl is quite large so it’s worth your money. The chicken is so juicy and tender. You’d catch yourself eating the chicken continuously without touching the rice – which happened to me, actually. The sauce is so lovely. It was a great meal overall. I’d definitely come back to try the karaage.
They have a take away menu if you want to bring Japan’s crunchiest fried chicken home to your loved ones. They are also on Grab and Foodpanda if you’re at home and craving.
