(I really suck at writing titles. Haha!)
Previously, I’ve talked about my love for sapphiclitbot’s tweets and hunting down the books the lovely quotes on the tweets came from. This time around, I want to talk about from me, the moon‘s tweets and find out whether or not they are from books or movies or elsewhere. If they came from a book or a movie, I would like to experience reading or watching the source. I think it would be romantic and magical — especially since Valentine’s day is around the corner.
So, here’s hoping we all get to expand our read/watch list from their tweets.
NOT FROM A BOOK/MOVIE. A quick Google search led me to Sue Zhao’s tumblr post from 2019 containing the same quote, along with images that show this quote with Sue Zhao’s name in it. There is no affiliated/attached book to it so it could be a vignette for online consumption.
NOT FROM A BOOK/MOVIE. Google led me to many places for this book but after adding quotation marks, it’s limited to just one page. One of the links is from Tumblr, a reblogged post from souvlakigf. The original post is gone but the reblogged post showed us a longer version of this quote, also possibly another vignette for online consumption.
FROM A BOOK. Third time’s a charm, yes? I put the quotation in quotes and led me to a Goodreads link with a quote by Melissa Cox. She has a number of books on Goodreads which includes a number of children’s books, self-help books, a new age book, and a new adult book. At this point, I can safely conclude that there is more than one Melissa Cox. Judging by the options, I think this quote may have come from Erotica: Virgin Initiations, an independently published short story collection only available on Kindle.
FROM A BOOK. This lovely quote is from Jeanette Winterson’s Lighthousekeeping. The quote is so intriguing so I really want to find the book. Lighthousekeeping is a novel about an orphaned girl who is adopted by an old lighthouse keeper on the Scottish coast. The lighthouse keeper tells her stories about a clergyman whose story becomes the girl’s guide through her life.

FROM A BOOK. Google led me to a Tumblr post with the source: Gabriela Mistral, from a letter to Doris Dana c. January 1950 (translated by Velma Garcia-Gorena). Gabriela Mistral is a Chilean poet-diplomat, educator and humanist who lived from 1889 – 1957. A number of her poetry collections appeared on search as well. When I looked for “Gabriela Mistral letters”, Velma Garcia-Gorena’s book appeared and Amazon has it for $75!

FROM A BOOK. This took a while to search but after chopping up the quote, I found the book – Honey Girl by Morgan Rogers – via Google Books. Honey Girl is a debut romance novel about a woman who, as out of character as it is, goes to Vegas and gets married to a woman she doesn’t now whilst drunk.

NOT FROM A BOOK/MOVIE. It is another quote by the lovely Sue Zhao on Tumblr from 2016.
NOT FROM A BOOK/MOVIE. It is a Tumblr quote from tordenvejr. It saddens me that this is a not a book or a movie quote or a song lyric.
NOT FROM A BOOK/MOVIE. The search for the origin of this quote is a dead end. It led me to a Twitter account that doesn’t show this exact post.
FROM A MANGA. This was a quick search, even without the quotes. The first link that Google provided has a name: Natsuki Takaya. Natsuki Takaya is the manga artist and creator of Fruits Basket. The next link says that this quote is by Yuki from Fruits Basket. Fruits Basket is a rather long manga and it is best to start with volume 1 to have the full experience.

This has been a very fun activity. We found 5 out of 10 books and amazing people on Tumblr who write so poignantly. Will I do this again? Maybe.
Enjoy!
