In my previous blog, I mentioned that I lost my game data for June’s Journey, a hidden items game developed by Wooga. I lost it as the information is backed up on Facebook and I was never able to link my account to the game. It was the hardest loss I encountered with my stolen phone. I think that’s mainly because it has never happened to me before. I’ve never had a game that I have been faithful to for almost two years. (Not even Pokemon Go made me this faithful.) It’s a game that I play almost daily, but not to the point of addiction.
At a point of desperation and bargaining, I decided to email the game developers to ask for help on Sunday evening. I explained that I lost my phone and with it, my game data. I added that I didn’t back it up on Facebook so I have no way of accessing it. After checking the photos and videos I was able to back up last year, I have screenshots of the game showing my account name and not-so-recent progress. I sent those as attachments.
Wooga reached out to me hours later and explained that THEY CAN HELP. There was a series of questions provided and somehow, by some stroke of luck, I have the answers for them. I have older screenshots of the game loading (which was done by mistake — as I was most likely decreasing the volume) and other features of the game that proved my account’s existence.
I sent all the information I have to them on Monday evening and hours after that, I was able to get instructions as to how I can get my game data back and the final thing they need for me to get it back: a screenshot of the game on my current phone. Once I sent that out, I got the next instructions — to choose my old progress and load the game.
First, I clicked “Connect” and it asked me if I want to link it to Facebook this time around. I chose yes.
Then, it told me that there is another game found – one was the game on the device and another that was on Facebook, which was the game I played on Saturday night when I found out that my progress was gone. For this, I chose “Cancel”.
After that, this option came. As promised by the developers, my old progress is indeed accessible and I only need to press “Select” to load it back up. So I did.
The game asks me one more time and I pressed “Confirm”.
That is how I got my game back. It never really crossed my mind to message Wooga until Sunday evening. The only reason why I did is because I just had to try and see if they can help. If they couldn’t, at least I know I tried to save my game.
I feel so lucky and so happy that I got it back. Thank you so much to Wooga for helping me out!
Love, Anj
